Routes let you monitor a specific shipment from start to finish. When a route ends, Surfact Signal automatically generates a route report — your cold chain compliance documentation for that transport. This guide shows how to start, configure and stop a route using the QR symbol.
👉 Prefer to click through it yourself? Take the interactive product tour.
Start a route
Click the QR symbol to start a route on a selected device — or to stop one of your ongoing routes.
Configure the route
Enter a description or ID to keep your routes organized — for example an order number or destination.
Set the temperature thresholds the shipment must stay within.
Define how the route ends: a stop location (the route stops when the device arrives) or a timeout.
Start monitoring
Once done, all you need to do is click the start button — the shipment is now being monitored.
Stop a route
Click the same QR symbol to stop an ongoing route manually. If you defined a stop location or timeout, the route ends automatically. Either way, the completed route appears under Route Reports as an automatically generated compliance report.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a stop location and a timeout?
A stop location ends the route automatically when the device reaches the defined destination; a timeout ends it after the time period you set. Use whichever fits your operation — or stop the route manually with the QR symbol.
Can drivers start routes by scanning the physical QR code?
Yes — for fix-mounted trackers in trucks and reefers, drivers can start and stop routes by scanning the QR code on the device. See How To Scan QR-Code for Fix-Mounted Emma Smart Trackers in Trucks & Reefers.
Where do I find the report after the route ends?
Under Route Reports — see Route Reports: Download Cold Chain Compliance Reports as PDF in Surfact Signal.
