Need to document the temperature of a shipment or storage area right now — for a customer, an auditor or your own records? With the readout in Surfact Signal you can create a PDF temperature report for any device and any time period, straight from the map view.
The video follows the seven steps below. In the example we create a readout for the device Hytta Inne for the last 24 hours.
Step 1: Select a device
In the map view, click the device you want a readout for in the Devices list on the left. The map zooms in on the device's position, and its temperature graph opens below the map.
Step 2: Choose a time period
Use the time period buttons above the temperature graph to choose which data to include:
6t — last 6 hours
24t — last 24 hours
7d — last 7 days
30d — last 30 days
Custom — pick your own date and time range
In the video we select 24t (last 24 hours).
Step 3: Click the readout symbol
Click the readout symbol (the small document icon) in the top-left corner of the temperature graph. This opens the Readout — [device name] window, for example Readout — Hytta Inne.
At the top of the window you'll see a summary of the selected period: the number of measurements and the minimum, average and maximum temperature.
Step 4: Add a description
Type a description in the Description field — for example the order or shipment reference, so the report is easy to identify later. In the video we enter FHY4357 Distribution to Pharmacy.
Step 5: Set temperature limits
Enter the temperature range the goods must stay within in Min temp (°C) and Max temp (°C). In the video we use min 5 °C and max 25 °C.
The readout updates right away:
The limits are drawn as dashed lines on the temperature graph.
The summary shows how long the temperature was in range and out of range during the period (in the example: in range 23t 33m, out of range 0t 0m).
Step 6: Create the PDF
Click the PDF button in the top-right corner of the readout window. The button shows Generating… for a moment, and the PDF is then saved to your Downloads folder.
The file is named after the device and the time it was created, for example readout-Hytta_Inne-20261023-0934.pdf.
Step 7: Inspect the report
Open the PDF to check the report before you share it. The readout is formatted for A4 (the example in the video is 4 pages) and contains:
Header & period — Surfact logo, device name and the selected period.
Limits & time in range — your min and max temperature limits, plus time in range and out of range.
Your description — the text you entered in step 4.
Chart & position — the temperature curve with limit lines, plus the device's position on the map.
Every measurement — a table with the time and temperature of each reading. Values within your limits are shown in green; values outside your limits are shown in red.
That's it — your report is ready to share. Map → device → period → readout → PDF.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a readout and a route report?
A readout is created on demand for any device and any time period you choose. Route reports are generated automatically for each monitored route. See Route Reports: Download Cold Chain Compliance Reports as PDF.
I can't find the PDF after downloading it
Check your browser's Downloads folder and search for a file name starting with readout- followed by the device name.
