Key Terms in Surfact

A short glossary of the words you'll see in Surfact Signal and the Help Center: devices, serial numbers, alerts, groups, routes, readouts, reports and more.

A quick reference for the words you'll see in Surfact Signal and in our articles.

Devices

  • Emma Smart Tracker (device): the tracker that measures temperature and position.

  • Serial number (ID): the unique code on the tracker's label, for example 0b8-818-61a. Use it to find the device in Signal and when you contact support.

  • Name and description: what you call the device ("Truck 12 – Chill") and a note about it. You can change both in the Devices view.

  • Online / offline: online if the device has sent data in the last 3 hours, offline (gray) if not.

  • Fixed position: a device set to a fixed address instead of live GPS, for example in a cold room.

  • Calibration certificate: the document that proves the temperature sensor's accuracy, for audits.

Monitoring

  • Temperature alert: a min and max temperature for a device. When the temperature goes outside, the device turns red and the recipients get an email. Also called an event or alarm in some places.

  • Group: a set of devices, for example a depot, a customer or all freezer trucks. A group can have its own alert that applies to every device in it.

  • Limits: the min and max temperature that apply to a device. They can come from the device's alert, its group and an active route. Signal uses the strictest.

  • Alarm history: the list of times an alert triggered and went back to normal, in the Alerts view.

Transport

  • Route: one monitored shipment, from start to stop. Started from the QR icon in Signal or by scanning the QR code on the tracker.

  • Temperature zone: the range a shipment must stay within, for example Chill or Freeze.

  • Stop location / timeout: how a route ends by itself: when the device reaches a place, or after a set time.

  • Route report: the PDF created automatically when a route ends, with map, temperature curve and time outside the limits.

Reports

  • Readout: a PDF you make yourself for any device and any period, with your own description and limits. See On-Demand PDF Readout.

  • Route report: made automatically for every finished route. See Route Reports.
